My sister, a wildly talented cake and cookie artist, sent me a photo of custom cookies she had made for a gathering. They were thoughtful, creative, and beautifully personal.
Meanwhile, I was in my studio making mushrooms and pumpkins for fall markets. I looked at my work, laughed, and said out loud: "and… all I’ve been doing today is making mumpkins and pushrooms.”
I texted that to my sister. Then I said it again.“Mumpkins.” And immediately thought… there’s something there.
That little studio chuckle stuck, and before long, mumpkins were born.
What started as playful ceramic characters in the Spring of 2025 has grown into a whole family of handmade pieces, each with their own personality and purpose.

What is a mumpkin?
A Mumpkin is a handmade ceramic character that lives somewhere between a mushroom and a pumpkin… and very comfortably in its own weird lane.
How do mumpkins get their names and personalities?
Mumpkins don’t get named until after their final firing.
That’s when their personality really shows up. The glaze, the texture, the way the colors move… something always clicks. Once that happens, the name just fits.
Sometimes it’s inspired by travel, sometimes by music, sometimes by vibes alone.
For example, one mumpkin came out of the kiln with a glaze combo that reminded me of a cozy flannel shirt. We had just been in Denver, so of course Finn was born… a Denver tech hipster with excellent coffee opinions.
Each mumpkin’s name and personality grow out of those little moments, which is why they all feel like individuals instead of copies.

Yes. Original mumpkins look cute and keep you company on a shelf or porch, or in a garden. Mumpkin vessels pull double duty as functional pieces you can use everyday.
